From Lust to Longevity

When Sexual Energy Becomes Radiance

One of the things I love most about my practice is having a front-row seat to witnessing something truly miraculous.

During the Healing Tao Ceremony, I watch clients arrive exhausted — worn from too much work, too many commitments, too little sleep, and almost no real “me” time.

Yet after the ceremony, they leave radiant. Their faces are glowing, their eyes are sparkling, and a quiet smile of peace spreads across their faces.

Even after all these years, I still find myself saying, “Wow.”

It’s amazing what the body can do when given the right conditions to heal and renew.

One of my Taoist teachers used to tell me, “Sex is the reason you’re born, and sex is the reason you die.”

It sounds mysterious — even a little alarming — until you understand what he meant.

Our generative energy, or Jing (sexual energy), is what keeps the body alive and functioning. Like a sacred savings account, this energy: when it runs out, life itself ends.

This generative force is our sexual essence.

When we waste it, we weaken our vitality; when we treasure and channel it skillfully, we stay vibrant and alive.

From the Taoist perspective, life naturally moves “down and out” — from birth toward decline. The first breath, as they say, is also the beginning of our last.

But Taoists believed in the principle of reversal: when something becomes too yin (downward, dissolving), the path of healing is to move toward yang (upward, refining).

So rather than letting our energy flow down and out, we learn to bring it up and in through intention, breath, and mindful awareness.

This is at the heart of Taoist practice — turning decay into renewal, reclaiming the body’s original abundance.

No external wealth can replace this inner treasure. True prosperity begins with your Jing.
